  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Aberdeen, S.D., home of Northern State University, has been recognized among the top 11 cities in the nation for millennial home buyers.

    Aberdeen ranked No. 2 on this list, compiled by mortgage data firm Ellie Mae. More than half of homebuyers in Aberdeen, or 56 percent, are millennials. Joining Aberdeen on the list, which was publicized nationwide, are other smaller cities, including Dickinson and Williston in North Dakota. Affordability and increased job availability are believed to be factors.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will hold community forums to discuss the university’s campus master plan.

    The forums, which are open to the public, will be held on the following dates:

    ▪ 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, in the NSU Student Center Centennial Rooms

    ▪ 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018,  at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – South Dakota artist Dick Termes, whose acclaimed Termespheres® have been recognized worldwide, will be a visiting artist at Northern State University Nov. 6-8.

    Termes’ NSU visit will include a free, public lecture 7-8 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Berggren Recital Hall.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Fine Arts will hold its annual Band Clinic on Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

    The clinic plays host to nearly 200 high school students with over 20 schools represented from Aberdeen and the surrounding area.

    This year’s guest conductors include NSU’s very own Dr. Joelle Lien, associate vice president for academic affairs and graduate studies director, and Ms. Sara Weischedel from Holgate Middle School.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Fine Arts’ Percussion Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will represent NSU at the South Dakota Music Educators Association Conference in Sioux Falls Oct. 26-28.

    The 2017 SDMEA Conference is held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A Northern State University international student has advanced to the top 100 entrants in a worldwide video competition.

    Eduardo Mendoza Reyes-Ortiz, a freshman music major from Bolivia, entered his video, “One Day Closer to My Dream,” in the International Student 2017 Travel Video Contest.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Katie Appl, Megan Hanson and Paulo Daniel Jimenez will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in the Northern State University Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    Appl, the daughter of Jim and Susan Appl, grew up in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 2014.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has created a one-of-a-kind welcome video to show that NSU is a university unlike any other.

    The new welcome video stars NSU President Dr. Timothy Downs, who explains why aspiring college students should attend Northern. And he’s not just telling them, he’s showing them – Downs is featured in a series of shots across campus, participating in activities from marching band to a chess match with Thunder, NSU’s mascot.

    Smith, the daughter of Vern and Nancy Smith, grew up in Gettysburg, graduating from Gettysburg High School in 2014.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s 19th annual Northern Night will be held Saturday, Nov. 18 – and there’s a chance to win tickets to the scholarship gala.
