Northern’s outstanding and innovative professors are committed to experiential learning and engaging you academically. Please share an example of this:

Northerns professors are committed to helping you with any situation that you are going through at Northern. They are willing to meet with you almost anytime during the day, even outside of their office hours, and they will even do it over zoom if it doesn't work to meet in person.

New and renovated campus facilities are world-class and inspire you to create. What is your favorite campus facility?

At Northern, all the facilities are up to date with the newest technology and updated classrooms/athletic facilities. My favorite facility, as a student athlete, is the Barnett Center.

Students, professors, and staff build an inclusive sense of community. Please share a time when you felt as though you belonged:

The first time I felt like I belonged at Northern was getting to know my team outside of “the team.” Hanging out after class and practice and getting to know new people was a huge step for me in starting to feel like Northern was my place.

Aberdeen, South Dakota is a safe and friendly community with a thriving downtown with plenty of opportunities to get involved through the arts, athletics, and outdoor recreation. Please share an example of a time you had fun in Aberdeen:

Aberdeen is a very fun and safe community. There are tons of things to do outside of school and off-campus. For example, Twist Cone is a local ice cream shop in Aberdeen that my friends and I love to go to whenever we have free time.

Professors and staff care about you and are dedicated to helping you learn and grow as a person. Please share a story that relates and how it positively impacted you:

An example of a professor going out of their way to help me was when I was struggling in a class. I reached out to the professor and we found a time that worked for both of us to meet. He was super easy to work with and made my confusion a lot clearer.

Explore your interests with a campus community who takes the time to get to know you and connect you to new adventures. Please share an example of your experience:

Being a part of a sports team at Northern, I already had a built-in friend group which made things a lot easier starting off. Having friends right off the bat helped me get more comfortable at Northern.

What is your favorite thing/activity to do in Aberdeen?

My favorite thing to do in Aberdeen is go to the sporting events that Northern puts on. The whole community comes together as one and it feels special.

What is/are your favorite restaurant(s) or shopping location(s) in Aberdeen?

My favorite restaurants in Aberdeen are either Qdoba or Buffalo Wild Wings. My roommates/teammates go to these places a lot.

Tell me about a cool opportunity you’ve had at NSU

A cool opportunity that NSU has given me is the opportunity to continue my Track and Field career. Being able to compete at this level is a blessing.

My best piece of advice for students considering NSU?

The best piece of advice I would give incoming freshmen is to get out and meet new people.

When I’m not working, I am…

When I am not working, I am either at practice, hunting/fishing, or playing video games with my roommates.

I could not live without…
