Ms. Piatz joined Northern State University in 2009 as director of the NSU Rising Scholars Program. Ms. Piatz works with high school principals, teachers and counselors, as well as Northern professors and administrators, to offer college courses at South Dakota high schools. Ms. Piatz coordinates all concurrent enrollment courses at participating high schools. The NSU Rising Scholars program is accredited through the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).

Ms. Piatz has a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science (MLS) and microbiology from South Dakota State University, and a master's degree in MLS from the University of North Dakota. She previously taught MLS courses for many years at Presentation College and Northern.
