A master’s degree in Sports Performance with specializations in Strength and Conditioning and Biomechanics/Exercise Physiology prepares students for advanced careers in athletic performance, sports science, and human movement analysis, including roles such as strength and conditioning coach, applied sport scientist, performance specialist, and biomechanics or exercise physiologist.

Our Master’s in Sports Sciences offers two dynamic specializations—Strength and Conditioning, and Biomechanics & Exercise Physiology—each designed to blend rigorous academic preparation with extensive hands-on experience. Students engage in coursework while applying concepts in state-of-the-art labs equipped with force plates, EMG sensors, GPS technology, and more. Whether designing strength programs or analyzing human movement, students build the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for successful careers in athletic performance, sports science, and human movement analysis. Both specializations also prepare graduates for industry-leading certifications such as NSCA-CSCS and ACSM-EP/CEP.

Unique Experiences as a Graduate Assistant

Our faculty are dedicated to helping students succeed in and out of the classroom. Students in this program are also often graduate assistants in NSU’s athletics programs. These unique experiences help many hone and develop the skills needed to secure job placements after graduation.

In addition to graduate assistantships, you will participate in a capstone experience through internships or a research project. Our faculty will work with you to identify internship or research opportunities that match your career and professional interests.

BIOMECHANICS / EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Specialization

This track is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the human  performance/sports science industry. This track explores the intricate relationship between  human movement and physiological responses. This specialized track delves into the fundamental principles of biomechanics and exercise physiology, providing students with an in-depth understanding of how the human body responds to sport and physical activity. This specialization prepares  graduates for potential career opportunities, including but not limited to, working for  professional sport teams or organizations (Nike, Adidas, Under Armour), clinical exercise  physiologist, sports biomechanist, health education and promotion manager, research  coordinator, etc.

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING Specialization

This track is designed for students wishing to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach in various settings, including secondary schools, colleges, professional programs, and private settings. This program focuses on developing the skills and knowledge necessary for creating effective training programs that enhance athletic performance.  You'll also refine your coaching abilities for program implementation.

Note: We are seeking NCSA-CASCE accreditation.

Cutting Edge Human Performance and Biomechanics Lab

As a student in the Sports Sciences program, you'll have access to the Nora Staael Evert Human Performance Lab and the Sports Biomechanics Lab. These state-of-the-art labs serve as vital research facilities for both faculty and students at NSU. You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment as part of your coursework and research opportunities. Check out the laboratories webpage to learn more!
