Sonja Bundy

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony opens the 2018-19 season on Nov. 3 with a fun-filled program of familiar works by Shostakovich, Vivaldi and Howard Hanson, called “Festive Opening.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center’s Jewett Theater on the campus of Northern State University.

Featured guest artist is Ms. Sonja Bundy, an extraordinary violinist who performs with orchestras throughout the Upper Midwest. Bundy is a member of the first violin section in the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, principal second violin of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and second violin in the Sioux City Symphony String Quartet.

A dedicated Suzuki violin teacher who works with the Avera Family Wellness program, Bundy will work with NSU string students and in area schools when she rehearses with the AUCS. At the concert, she will perform some of the most popular works for violin and orchestra, including Vivaldi’s “Winter” from The Four Seasons, as well as a Tango (“Jalousie”) and Monti’s “Csardas.”

“Sonja’s artistry and technique will thrill everyone who hears her play,” said AUCS Director Dr. Christopher Stanichar.
