Poster for AUCS concert

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) will take you on a tour of Italy in their spring concert entitled “It’s-A-Me!” directed by Christopher Stanichar.

The concert will take you on a voyage through Italian culture and places, beginning with Gioachino Rossini’s overture to “La Gazza Ladra,” which translates to “The Thieving Magpie.” Most don’t recognize the name of this work, but have heard it in commercials and movies, including “A Clockwork Orange.”

The AUCS will also join with the NSU Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Timothy Woods. The orchestra and choir will treat the audience to some of the most famous Italian choruses in the operatic literature, including works by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, among others.

AUCS will also be joined by Dr. Marla Fogderud, NSU voice faculty member, who will sing “Vissi d’arte” from Puccini’s La Tosca.

The concert will conclude with Ottorino Respighi’s “Pines of Rome,” a piece describing nature within the city of Rome and a recreation of the formidable Ancient Roman Army as it marches to the Capitoline Hill amidst a blast of trumpets and brass.

The concert takes place on April 27, 2019, at 7:30 pm in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Auditorium.

Tickets for the concert are $18 for adults and free for NSU students.
