ABERDEEN, S.D. — Northern State University's Millicent Atkins School of Education will host its annual Learning Expo on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Gerber Building and Barnett Center on the NSU campus in Aberdeen. The free event invites prospective education students and educators to connect with NSU faculty and learn about Northern's education programs.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m. with the event running from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
South Dakota native Sean Covel will deliver the keynote address. A producer of the film Napoleon Dynamite and a professor at the University of Southern California, Covel will present "Questions Are the New Answers," a fast-paced look at why asking the right questions matters more than having all the answers.
"The Learning Expo offers aspiring teachers a firsthand look at the rewarding world of education," said Dr. Anna Schwan, dean of the Millicent Atkins School of Education. "Education is at the very foundation of Northern State University, which was once known as Northern State Teachers College. This rich history in teacher preparation continues to drive our commitment to nurturing the next generation of educators, providing them with the tools and inspiration they need to succeed in this vital profession."
The expo will feature:
- Interactive sessions and breakout activities
- Opportunities to meet NSU education students, faculty and alumni
- Free admission and lunch
The event is free and open to the public. To register, visit nrthn.com/aYwJ67 or contact Nicole Schutter, assistant professor and teacher education department co-chair, at nicole.schutter@northern.edu or 605-626-2570.
