ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern Fort Playhouse’s 13th season will bring “Fly By Night” and “It’s Only a Play” to the historic Fort Sisseton through the end of the month.

Showing at 7:30 p.m. on July 21 and 28 is “Fly By Night,” a folk-rock musical that follows the lives of sisters Miriam and Daphne, two women from a small town in South Dakota, to New York City where Daphne is trying to make it as a star and Miriam is just trying to survive. Along the way their path crosses with Harold, a hapless sandwich-maker dealing with the loss of his mother. With a connection to South Dakota, catchy and fun music and a fascinating story that shows how we are all connected, “Fly By Night” will offer a delightful evening of musical theater.

“Fly By Night” features Northern State University student Tyler Beck of Aberdeen, who both acts and puts his talent as a guitar player on display in the role of Harold. “Fly By Night” is directed by Sara Pillatzki-Warzeha.

The Northern Fort Playhouse will also offer “It’s Only a Play” by Terrence McNally, a hilarious play that puts the silliness of show business front and center. Set at the opening night party for a new play, “It’s Only a Play” follows the writer, producer, star, director and others as they anxiously await the first reviews of the new show.

With fast-paced dialogue, wit and style, “It's Only a Play” is a hilarious and loving send-up to the highs and lows of creating theater. “It’s Only a Play” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on July 20 and 27, and 2 p.m. on July 22. The show includes some adult language is recommended for high school audiences and older. It is directed by Dan Yurgaitis, NSU professor of theater/theater director.
