HCC cohort doing a gallery walk: students looking at artwork on the wall

HURON, S.D. – Area teachers looking to expand their expertise while staying close to home have an opportunity to enroll in a Northern State University master’s program this fall at Huron Community Campus (HCC).

Spots are still available in the fall 2022 M.S.Ed. in Teaching and Learning cohort, which begins in August at HCC.

Dr. Jessica Vogel, NSU Graduate Coordinator for Teaching and Learning, said this program is designed for any current educator wishing to gain greater expertise in pedagogy and learning.

“Teachers are lifelong learners, and the Teaching and Learning program keeps teachers up to date with current research and methodology,” Vogel said. “The cohort is offered at a much lower rate than typical graduate programs thanks to the support of the Huron University Foundation and the City of Huron, so it's an excellent opportunity to gain greater expertise in pedagogical and learning skills!”

Northern faculty travel to Huron to teach graduate students in the cohort one weekend a month during the school year and two weeks in the summer on the Huron Community Campus, Vogel said.

“Courses focus on emerging and current classroom needs,” she said. “Topics such as digital technology, teaching English language learners, school law, inclusive education and research-based methodology are covered.”
