ABERDEEN, S.D. — Northern State University and Epicosity have earned a Telly Award for the "Experience Northern" video campaign in the Branded Content category, adding national recognition to a project that earlier this year received a Gold ADDY Award from the American Advertising Federation-South Dakota.

The Telly Awards annually recognize the best work in video and television across all screens, receiving more than 13,000 entries globally from six continents and all 50 states. Winners represent some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world. Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards have evolved with the video medium to include branded content, documentary, social media and more.

The "Experience Northern" campaign was produced by Epicosity, a full-service marketing agency, in partnership with Northern State University, as part of a broader brand effort to showcase the Northern State University experience through visual storytelling. The campaign featured locked-on motion, cut-points synchronized to music and warmer color grading to bring the Northern experience to life on screen.

"Working in collaboration with the NSU team, the goal was to demonstrate what the true Northern Experience looks like in as dynamic and energized a way as possible," said Luke Tatge, vice president of creative services at Epicosity. "To achieve that, we needed to get to the heart of what makes NSU, and Aberdeen at large, the top-tier place that it is. This campaign captures that spirit in spades."

"This is not your typical university ad campaign — and that was intentional," said Chad Hatzenbuhler, director of communications and marketing at Northern State University. "Together with Epicosity, we set out to create something fresh, cinematic and genuinely different from what you normally see in higher education marketing. The positive response from campus, alumni, donors and the broader community has been incredibly encouraging and is a big part of what makes this recognition so meaningful."

The "Experience Northern" campaign previously earned a Gold ADDY Award — the highest honor at the local level — from the American Advertising Federation-South Dakota earlier this year.
