ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has been well known as a teacher college since its inception in 1901. It continues to excel at preparing future teachers. Northern’s education program was ranked the best in the state by Niche.
That’s not the only area that Niche has Northern leading the state. Northern was also ranked first in the state for its residence halls, which were recently updated to be modern, with comforts of home including pod-style living, suites and social spaces.
Niche is a leading school ranking website and recently released its 2024 college rankings, for both national and state rankings. Niche combines ratings from current students, alumni and parents with quantitative data from sources, such as the Department of Education, and has updated data for over 4,000 colleges nationwide.
Northern ranked second in Accounting and Finance, liberal arts, and diversity categories across all South Dakota colleges, by Niche.
Nationally, Northern’s residence halls ranked 55th and the education program ranked 82nd.
Niche also ranked Northern alumni above the national average, with 94% of alumni employed within two years of graduation vs 83% nationally, and six years after graduation earning an median of $35,300 a year vs $33,028 nationally.
