ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will come together to present their spring choral concert, titled “Farewells and Thanks,” at 3 p.m. March 31 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

The Chamber Singers will open the concert with Thomas Marley’s “Fire, Fire” and Tomas Luis de Victoria’s “O vos omnes,” which will be followed by all seven movements of Gabriel Fauré’s “The Fauré Requiem,” with soloists Salvatore Scavo, Taylor Brekke and John Cassens. The Chamber Singers will then perform the second movement of “All-Night Vigil” by Rachmaninoff; “Blagosloví, dushé moya’, Ghóspoda (Bless the Lord, O My Soul)” and “Marianne” from Philip Wilby’s “North Country Folk Songs.”

The Concert Choir will end the concert with “In Remembrance” by Jeffrey Ames, featuring McKinley Hoselton of Richardton, N.D., on French horn; “Requiem” by Eliza Gilkyson; and will close the concert with Jeff Haskell’s arrangement of “O Holy Night” featuring the graduating seniors in the choir.

The concert will feature special recognition to the seniors and for those who serve as accompanists: freshman Tyra Steinwand of Ellendale, N.D., sophomore Sara Krebsbach of Rockford, Minn., junior Tierra Decker of Huron, and seniors Grace Gasperich of Aberdeen, and Elsa Swanson of Chaska, Minn.

Thirty members of the Concert Choir will perform “The Fauré Requiem” in its entirety at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 26 under the direction of “The King’s Singers” founder and first conductor, Simon Carrington.

The NSU Concert Choir and Chamber Singers are directed by Dr. Timothy Woods.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for NSU faculty/staff, and free for school-aged children or NSU students with ID.
