ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Theater will hold community auditions for three children’s roles in the upcoming production of “Fun Home.”

Auditions will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center’s Black Box Theater on the NSU campus.

In “Fun Home,” when her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. “Fun Home” is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

Descriptions of the three children’s role follow:

Small Alison: Female, 8-10.

Christian: Male, 10-15; Alison’s older brother; oldest of the three children; strives to be the leader, but is sometimes overshadowed by Alison’s strong personality; seeking a singer with a natural sound, good sense of harmony and pitch.

John: Male, 6-9; Alison’s younger brother; like most boys his age, he is full of energy with a quirky imagination; looks up to his siblings; seeking a singer with a natural sound, good sense of harmony and pitch.

Children will be asked to sing. Rehearsals will not begin until Feb. 25. “Fun Home” will perform April 9-13 at Northern. For more information, contact NSU Theater Director Daniel Yurgaitis at 605-626-2563.
