ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s spring 2022 Noon Forum series will kick off next week with featured speaker Dr. Jon Schaff.

Schaff’s presentation, titled “Why Presidential Election Reform Backfires,” will begin at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the Williams Library Rotunda.

Schaff is Professor of Government and Director of the new Center for Public History and Civic Engagement. The Center recently received a $35,000 grant from the Knight Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation of South Dakota, which will fund three years of activities.

The Center, which opened this fall at NSU, encourages public interaction with history and history education while promoting greater civic knowledge of an active citizenry through programming, research and archival preservation.

Noon Forums, which are free and open to the public, will continue throughout the semester at noon most Wednesdays in the library. Upcoming topics and presenters are as follows:

  • Feb. 23: “I Can Read, I Just Can’t Comprehend,” Dr. Tim Houge
  • March 2: “Laughing in Church? Christian Clowning,” Dr. Liz Sills
  • March 23: Forum at 2 p.m. by guest artist Oda Hjertine Voltersvik
  • March 30: “Five Essential Women’s History Month Films,” Dr. Kristi Brownfield
  • April 6: “How to Run and Why,” Logan Manhart, Brian Bengs and others
  • April 13: “Do Comics Rot Your Brain? Using Sequential Art in the Classroom,” Dr. Kane Anderson
  • April 20: “Five Essential Songs and Mantras,” Dr. Pam Monaghan-Geernaert and others
  • April 27: “The Last Lecture I’d Ever Give,” Dr. Andrew Russell
