Molly Wicks

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Artist Molly Wicks will showcase her ‘New Works’ exhibition in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery from Jan. 15 to March 9.

An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Jan. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the JFAC Gallery.

Molly received a BFA from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a MFA from Washington State University. She is now an instructor in her hometown of Brookings at South Dakota State University where she teaches painting, drawing and design.

Wicks’ artwork explores subtractive form and the ghosts of color, working from sedimentary layers, fungus and mold forms, then applying paint to the cuts in wooden panels, which provides an organic grid whose holes refract into shadow harmonies.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. The Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
