  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – For Northern State University alumna Nichole Bowman, a school assembly brought the surprise of a lifetime when she was presented with a prestigious national teaching award.

    Bowman, who teaches math at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, is one of only about 60 teachers nationwide to win the annual Milken Educator Award, which carries a monetary prize of $25,000 and is called the "Oscar of teaching."

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Travis Netzer will hold a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in Krikac Auditorium. 

    Netzer, a lecturer of tuba and euphonium at NSU, will perform a tuba recital that blends classical and popular music. He will combine more traditional performance repertoire with “rock tuba,” in which he uses guitar distortion pedals and loops stations to perform covers of rock tunes.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The public is invited to the Investiture Ceremony of Dr. Neal Schnoor, 18th President of Northern State University.

    The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. A reception will immediately follow in the JFAC lobby.

    Schnoor started as NSU president in July 2021, bringing to Northern over 10 years of collaborative cabinet-level and dean experience at the University of California State-Long Beach, University of Nebraska at Kearney and Wayne State College… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student groups will hold a Cultural Jubilee on Thursday, March 31. The event, open to all students, faculty, staff and community members, will take place 7-9 p.m. in the Kessler’s Champions Club in the NSU Barnett Center Addition (2nd floor). It is free to attend and participate in.

    The jubilee, which is geared toward sharing different types of culture, is sponsored by Northern’s Campus Activities Board, Native American Student Association, Impact Dance Club and International Student Organization.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University invites the community to a welcome reception for NSU Director of Athletics Nate Davis.

    The meet and greet event with Davis will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Kessler’s Champions Room of the NSU Barnett Center. Complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Honors Program will host speaker, author and former “Survivor” contestant Holly Hoffman at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6.

    The event, which is free and open to campus and the community, will take place in the Kessler’s Champions Club in the NSU Barnett Center Addition. 

    Hoffman grew up in Eureka, S.D., and attended Northern. She was the last remaining member of the Espada Tribe and the last woman standing on Season 21 of CBS’ hit reality show “Survivor Nicaragua.”
