MFG gift will fund new art pavilion on NSU campus

ABERDEEN, S.D. – A significant gift of $30,000 from Molded Fiber Glass Cos. will be used to create an outdoor art pavilion on the Northern State University campus.

The Molded Fiber Glass South Dakota Pavilion will be located east of Spafford and Dacotah halls. MFG CEO Richard Morrison and Aberdeen MFG Senior Vice President David Giovannini were on campus Monday to finalize the donation.

NSU Choral Winter Program set for Dec. 5

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Choral Winter Program will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Kline St.

The concert will include performances by the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Early Music Ensemble, conducted by Drs. Timothy Woods and Wendy van Gent. The program will feature a variety of selections, including holiday music, such as a performance of “O Holy Night” by the Concert Choir and alumni.

NSU Symphonic, Concert bands to present ‘Explorations’ concert

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Sunday, Nov. 17, the Northern State University Symphonic and Concert bands will present the first in a series of concerts featuring music from around the world.

The “Explorations” concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theatre. The performance will feature pieces such as “Greek Folk Song Suite – Cesarini,” “Suite Francaise – Milhaud” and “Danzon No. 2 – Marquez.”

Northern alum Dr. Darryl Tonemah returns to Aberdeen for performance

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Acclaimed singer, songwriter, psychologist, author and actor Dr. Darryl Tonemah returns to Northern State University for a special performance at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15.

Tonemah’s “Story and Song Concert,” sponsored by the NSU Native American Student Association, will commemorate Native American Month. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Krikac Auditorium.

‘Fall Into Jazz’ at Nov. 14 concert at NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Nov. 14, the Northern State University School of Fine Arts invites you to “Fall Into Jazz” at a concert on the NSU campus.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theatre. The event will feature performances by the 2 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart; the 1 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Terry Beckler; and the NSU Jazz Trio and Jazz Combo, both directed by Mr. Fritz Hemke.

Schmidt to hold senior recital Oct. 27 at Northern State University

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Tabitha Schmidt will have her senior recital at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

Schmidt, a percussionist, will perform “Suite for Timpani” by David Mancini, “Chakalaka” by Francisco Perez, “Prelude and Blues” by Ney Rosauro and “2+1” by Ivan Trevino. Also performing will be Sara Krebsbach; Matej Cip and Dylan Unruh (duet); Adam Henning, Aldous Ulvog, and Dr. Travis Netzer (trio); and NSU alum Luke Bergjord.
