The Outsiders Movie Cover

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s School of Fine Arts and the Northern State University Foundation are excited to announce a special event featuring actor C. Thomas Howell, who will join in the screening of The Outsiders on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Johnson Fine Arts Center in Aberdeen.

Howell, known for his role as Ponyboy Curtis in the 1983 classic film The Outsiders, will participate in a Q&A session following the screening, sharing behind-the-scenes insights and experiences from the film. This event offers a rare opportunity to celebrate the enduring legacy of The Outsiders and enjoy insights and stories from the star of the film.

C. Thomas Howell’s career spans over four decades and includes memorable roles in E.T.Red Dawn, and The Hitcher. Francis Ford Coppola directed The Outsiders. The standout cast also included Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze, who portrayed Howell’s on-screen brothers. 

The film is based on S.E. Hinton's novel, which tells the story of two rival teenage gangs – the “Greasers” and the “Socs.” The novel often appears on reading lists for middle school language arts classes in the United States. 

The event is part of an ongoing effort by the School of Fine Arts and the Northern State University Foundation to bring enriching cultural experiences to Aberdeen and northeastern South Dakota and is expected to be an unforgettable evening.

An Evening with C. Thomas Howell & Screening of The Outsiders is Saturday, March 29 in the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater in the Johnson Fine Arts Center at Northern State University. The event starts at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase in the foyer. General Admission tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 17 and under.
