ABERDEEN, S.D. — Northern State University is pleased to announce that Dr. Sal Villegas, an assistant professor of management in the School of Business, will transition to lead the banking and financial services programs at Northern State University. With a passion for teaching and extensive industry experience, Dr. Villegas will lead the instruction and curriculum analysis of these innovative programs beginning in the fall semester.
Originally from southwestern Idaho, Dr. Villegas and his family have called Aberdeen home since 2020. He brings nearly two decades of experience in the banking and finance industry, having held key positions such as senior special assets account manager for Capital One Bank, financial advisor for Prudential Financial, assistant vice president/relationship manager II for Washington Trust Bank, and assistant vice president/branch manager IV for U.S. Bank.
Dr. Villegas has been part of Northern State University since 2020, serving as an assistant professor of management. In his academic journey, he pursued his doctoral studies while transitioning to higher education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and political science from The College of Idaho, an MBA in management and strategy from Western Governors University, and a Doctor of Business Administration in management from George Fox University.

The banking and financial services programs at Northern State University include a Master of Science, Bachelor of Science, and minor, providing comprehensive education and training for students aiming to excel in the financial sector.
Dr. Villegas maintains an open-door policy and encourages students to reach out with any questions or concerns regarding course assignments and career pathways. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys watching sports, barbecuing, and spending time with his family.
