ABERDEEN, S.D. — Northern State University's School of Fine Arts is continuing its collaboration with Aberdeen Community Theatre to present Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved musical “Cinderella,” from Oct. 21 to 25 at the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theatre in Northern's Johnson Fine Arts Center.

The production brings together performers and musicians from Northern's Opera-Theatre program and the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony with the artistic, administrative and volunteer staff of Aberdeen Community Theatre.

The musical is directed by Brian T. Schultz, with musical direction by Michael Skyles and orchestral direction by Christopher Stanichar.

“Cinderella” tells the story of a young woman forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. Dreaming of a better life, Cinderella receives help from her fairy godmother, who transforms her life and gives her the opportunity to attend a royal ball, where she meets the prince.

Originally written for television, Rodgers and Hammerstein's “Cinderella” premiered live on CBS on March 31, 1957, starring Julie Andrews in the title role. The musical has since become a favorite among audiences, featuring a blend of romance, humor and memorable songs.

The October production continues a partnership between Northern State University and Aberdeen Community Theatre, bringing together university and community performers to share their talents with audiences throughout the region.

Performance times, casting information and tickets are available through the Aberdeen Community Theatre website.
