ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Chief Enrollment Management Officer Marcus Garstecki was named president of Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas.
“Dr. Garstecki has provided outstanding leadership and helped advance Northern. He will be an excellent president at Barton Community College,” said President Dr. Neal Schnoor. “We are excited that he will remain on staff until June to help ensure a smooth transition for his successor.”
Garstecki started with Northern in early 2023. He will start his new role in July, following the retirement of Barton’s current president.
“I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to President Dr. Schnoor for providing me with this opportunity. I’ve enjoyed my time here at Northern, working with all of the great faculty, staff, and administration team. I especially want to thank the Northern admissions team. They are a talented group, and I was very fortunate to work with them on a daily basis,” said Garstecki.
With over 25 years of experience in higher education, Garstecki previously served as the vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Dakota State University-Madison and vice president for the Mid-Plains Community College-North Platte campus.
“The offer to become the President at Barton Community College is a great opportunity for me that I couldn’t pass up. I will miss the Northern community and Aberdeen, however, I look forward to watching Northern grow and accomplish great things,” Garstecki said.
