2022 Concerto-aria winners Megan Dockter and Eli Houdyshell

ABERDEEN, S.D. Winners have been announced for the 2022 Northern State University Concerto-Aria Competition.

 

Megan Dockter of Watertown was named instrumental winner, and Eli Houdyshell of Pierre was named vocal winner.

 

Dockter, who plays the clarinet, is a student of Dr. Audrey Miller. She performed Scott McAllister’s X Concerto, 2nd Movement: “To the Pines… To the Pines.”

 

Houdyshell, a tenor, is a student of Mr. Michael Skyles. He performed George Frideric Handel’s “Love Sounds the Alarm” from Acis and Galatea.

 

Both students will now appear with the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. in the JFAC Jewett Theater. 

 

The Concerto-Aria Competition, held Tuesday in the Johnson Fine Arts Center, was judged by Mr. Robert Cantrell, Maestro Thomas Fortner and Ms. Beth Neitzert. Honorable mention winners were Madison March, trumpet, and Hannah Gasperich, mezzo-soprano.
