    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has been authorized by the South Dakota Board of Regents to start a new nursing program that will address critical workforce needs for the community, region and state.

    Northern plans to develop a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program starting in fall 2024, following approval this week by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

    This new program will provide students a pathway to becoming a registered nurse, with career ladder steps along the way.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Registration is now open for the 107th annual Northern State University Gypsy Day Parade, set for Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023. 

    The parade will begin at 9 a.m. in downtown Aberdeen. Entrants will decorate their float based on this year’s theme, “Wolves Go to Vegas.” A panel of judges comprised of Northern and community leaders will present awards in various categories.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University international alumnus Matěj Číp is on his way to a prestigious graduate school in New York City—and he said NSU played a pivotal role in helping him get there.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – A team of three Northern State University students participated in a statewide data analytics competition this spring that was open to all South Dakota Board of Regents institutions.

    Dante Casanova, William Madler and Brandon Steinhauer competed in the event, which was administered by Dakota State University and sponsored by Capital Services of Sioux Falls.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Andrew Wedwick has been named a SHAPE America Major of the Year.

    Wedwick is a sophomore physical education major from Viroqua, Wis., and member of the Wolves Baseball Team.

    After college, he intends to find a teaching job in the Midwest. Wedwick plans to teach physical education at any grade level and also wants to get into coaching football, basketball or baseball.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is helping South Dakota solve the teacher shortage by creating a flexible, low-cost pathway for educational assistants (para-educators) who are working in schools to become teachers.

    The South Dakota Department of Education opened applications for the Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway to thousands of para-educators working in accredited school districts across the state. The program will help para-educators pursue certification to become licensed teachers.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Two Northern State University students received awards in the 2023 Brown County Historical Society research and writing contest.

    First place went to Jaeden Shaving for his paper titled “Let Me Be a Free Man: The Origins and Beliefs of the American Indian Movement.” Shaving is a history major from Aberdeen, S.D.

    Bridget Fuhrmann received third place for “The History of Northern’s Fine Art Department.” Fuhrmann is a history major with an English minor from Roscoe, S.D.
