  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Dr. Marla Fogderud, soprano, and Dr. William Wieland, piano, will present a lecture recital on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    The program, entitled “I Hear America Singing: Songs from Throughout American History,” includes American solo song literature from the Revolutionary War era to the present. Fogderud is assistant professor of voice at NSU, and Wieland is professor of piano and composition.

    The performance is free and open to the public.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Thirteen Northern State University students deepened their understanding of Islam this semester thanks to a field trip to a Minnesota mosque.

    Students in the course “History and Geography of the Middle East,” co-taught by Drs. Erin Fouberg and Steven Usitalo, traveled to the Abu Bakar Islamic Center in Minneapolis in November. The field trip, which also included a stop at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, gave the students a unique experience they couldn’t get in the classroom, Fouberg said.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Recent construction projects announced for Northern State University are only the beginning of possible improvements to campus.

    NSU’s campus master plan lays out numerous other potential projects for the next decade and beyond. University administration worked with CO-OP Architecture to develop a master plan for these proposed facilities, though no projected timeline or cost estimate has been set.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has capped off months of working to refresh the university’s brand by announcing a brand new tagline: “Unleash your potential | Join the pack.”

    This new tagline came after research, focus groups, surveys and a student vote – with more than 350 students weighing in. It’s part of the NSU Communications and Marketing Department’s efforts to refresh the university’s brand, a project that kicked off in early 2017.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A paper co-authored by Northern State University School of Business Dean Dr. Tim Mantz has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Business Strategy™ (IJBS).

    The paper is titled “Brand Recall Within Advergames and the Effect of the Hand Held Controller on Flow State in India.” The research, which is part of a larger study involving several countries, demonstrates the higher value of advertising within Xbox games.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – As part of a strategic expansion of staffing and roles within the Northern State University Foundation, Jon Olson has been promoted to senior vice president of development.

    Olson joined the Northern State team in July 2014 as the vice president of development in the NSU Foundation. Olson's primary responsibilities are major gift development and oversight of alumni relations and research staff.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University School of Fine Arts student Elsa Swanson of Chaska, Minn., was chosen as a district winner of the 54th annual North Dakota-Manitoba District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, held Oct. 28 at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

    Swanson, a senior music education major, is a soprano. She has studied under Dr. Darci Bultema, NSU associate professor of voice, during her time at NSU.
