  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will host the annual National History Day regional competition on Wednesday, March 8.

    Over 200 middle and high school students from around northeastern South Dakota will be participating in the event, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at NSU. Northern hosts this event every spring.

    Winners at the regional competition are invited to go to the state competition, and winners of the state competition advance to the national competition.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, the Northern State University Music Department will present its Spring Jazz Concert in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

    The concert will feature the 1 O’clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Terry Beckler, and the 2 O’clock Jazz Ensemble, Directed by Dr. Grant Manhart.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Department of Music will present the 12th Annual Bach’s Lunch Concert at noon Wednesday, March 22.

    The concert, titled “Psalms and Transformations,” will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. N.E., Aberdeen.

    The event will feature performances by the NSU Chamber Singers, under the direction of Marla Fogderud and assisted by Christopher Stanichar, Fritz Hemke and Stuart Davidson.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students Dylan Eckart and Jakob Walden will have their senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 5, in Northern’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Eckart, whose primary instrument is tuba, will perform “Concerto in One Movement,” by Alexander Lebedev (1914-1979); “Stuff,” by James Grant (b. 1954); and “Sinfonia,” by G. B. Pergolesi (1710-1736). He will be accompanied by Dr. William Wieland on the Concerto and “Sinfonia.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Ginny Lewis has published the book, “The Novels of Zsigmond Móricz in the Context of European Realism.”

    In the book, released by publisher Peter Lang Group, Lewis focuses on seven novels by Móricz, analyzing each in chronological order to show the author’s development of themes surrounding agency and greed in modern society.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Nuurrianti Jalli has been appointed as advisor/governing council member for the Foundation for Advancing Critical Thinking in South Asia (FACTS Asia). 

    In this role, Jalli will serve as an external expert on dis/misinformation and media and information literacy for the organization, a nonprofit educational initiative based in India. The two-year appointment lasts until December 2024.
