  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Business has received a grant from the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation (AACF) to support “Growing the Future: A Student Symposium on Agribusiness,” which will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

    The grant was awarded through the AACF’s Aberdeen Energy-Agriculture Sub-Fund, created with funding from Advanced BioEnergy following the sale of its Aberdeen ethanol plant several years ago. The company established the charitable sub-fund to support agriculture in the Aberdeen area.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has joined the South Dakota IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (SD INBRE), a statewide research consortium funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

    New this academic year (2025–26), Northern is serving as a partner institution in the program, which supports undergraduate research and strengthens biomedical and behavioral science education across South Dakota.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Interim President Dr. Laurie Nichols today announced the retirement of Veronica Paulson, Vice President for Finance and Administration. Paulson joined Northern in 1990 and has provided more than 35 years of dedicated service to the university, with strategic oversight of financial operations, facilities management, budgeting, and major capital projects.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. — On Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m., the Northern State University Music Department will present a jazz concert featuring Northern’s 2 p.m. Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart. The concert will take place in the Jewett Theater at the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Students in Northern State University’s Prisons and Penology course recently participated in an educational tour of the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

    The trip was organized by Dr. Lucas Z. Wiscons, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in the College of Arts and Sciences, with support from Dr. Elizabeth Haller, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of English.
