NSU grads eligible for guaranteed admission into SDSU Accelerated Nursing Program

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Thanks to a new agreement, Northern State University graduates will now be eligible for guaranteed acceptance into the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program from SDSU located in Aberdeen.

The  guaranteed admission agreement between Northern and South Dakota State University was recently approved by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Northern State University senior Danielle Weisz won a student poster competition award at the National Collegiate Honors Conference on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

Weisz, an elementary education major from Bismarck, N.D., won in the education and pedagogy category at the conference, which took place in New Orleans.

This work was her honors thesis, which is advised by Dean Connie Geier. Dr. Jeff Howard helped her with the statistical analysis for the research.

Record number of NSU Honors students accepted at national conference

ABERDEEN, S.D. – A record 14 Northern State University Honors Program students have been accepted to present their Honors undergraduate research at the National Collegiate Honors Conference in fall 2021.

That’s a 100 percent acceptance rate for Northern this year; the typical NCHC acceptance rate for the student research poster competition is around 65 percent.

The students submitted their research abstracts under the guidance of NSU Honors Program Director Dr. Kristi Bockorny, as well as faculty advisors.

NSU STEM kits offer educators ‘experiments in a box’

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has created an exciting opportunity for third-through fifth-grade teachers who are interested in bringing more STEM lessons into their classrooms.

The NSU College of Arts and Sciences has developed a new STEM Kit program that will provide “experiments in a box” available for teachers to check out throughout the upcoming school year, much like a library book.

Three NSU students win Brown County Historical Society awards

ABERDEEN, S.D. – All three winners in the 2021 Brown County Historical Society research and writing contest are Northern State University students.

First place went to Greg Lux for his paper “Striking Out: Why the Homestead Strike was a Success for No One.” Lux, from Eden Valley, Minn., is a history education major.

James Heisinger received second place for “The Presidential Election of 1876: A Legacy Forgotten.” Heisinger, of Sioux Falls, S.D., is a social science education major.

s an undergraduate English major and minor in public relations, I wanted to explore what it means to pursue a liberal arts education. There are a lot of things that make up a liberal arts education, and it provides a lot of benefits. Let’s learn about it together.

First, what is a liberal arts education? For me, a liberal arts education is a broad field of study that comprises humanities, arts and sciences. It is a well-rounded education that helps you apply the knowledge you learn in the real world.
