  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony treats you to a “Night at the Oscars®,” featuring some of the most beloved themes from movies conducted by director, Dr. Christopher Stanichar. 

    The concert takes place on Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. There will be a Pre-Concert Conversation scheduled for 6:45-7:15 p.m. in the Berggren Recital Hall.

  • HURON, S.D. – Area teachers looking to expand their expertise while staying close to home have an opportunity to enroll in a Northern State University master’s program this fall at Huron Community Campus (HCC).

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A grand opening event for the Northern State University Student Organizations Hub—a new space for student organizations to create, connect and collaborate—was held Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the Avera Student Center.

    The event, held in conjunction with Winter Rush, included a dedication of the new space by NSU President Dr. Neal Schnoor, Student Government Association President Jake Swanson and Student Organizations Recognition Committee Chair James Heisinger.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Drs. Marla Fogderud and Anne Waltner will present a recital, “Songs Older and Newer: A Showcase of Edvard Grieg’s Romanser,” at Northern State University.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University supports and sustains more than 1,000 jobs across the region and generates $180.7 million in economic impact, according to a recent economic impact report released by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

    The report, based on figures from 2019, also indicates Northern generates $33.7 million in student spending, $6.8 million in state and local taxes.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is now a full member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) following a recent vote of the council’s Board of Directors.

    “Full membership provides national recognition that Northern is providing transformative education through an integrated curriculum in the liberal arts—including the humanities and fine arts, natural and social sciences, and mathematics—commensurate with that offered by North America’s finest private colleges,” said NSU President Dr. Neal Schnoor.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A new art exhibition that focuses on the complex concept of femininity will be on display starting Monday in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.

    “Feminine Attempts” by Klaire Lockheart will be up through March 28. An opening reception will take place Monday, Feb. 7, 7-8:30 p.m., with Lockheart present to discuss her work. This event is free and open to the public.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has installed additional lighting and security cameras in an effort aimed at keeping campus safe.

    Lighting has been added in the Washington Street parking lot, McArthur-Welsh parking lot, the campus green and near the Mewaldt-Jensen building. Cameras have also been installed in the Washington Street parking lot, McArthur-Welsh parking lot and the Kramer Hall entrance.

    Landscaping work is also being completed to improve safety by trimming trees near the Physical Plant and removing bushes near Steele Hall.
