  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A husband and wife musical duo will perform an upcoming concert at Northern State University.

    Dr. Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry will present a recital of music for two pianos four-hands at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    Featured on the program will be music by Modest Musorgsky, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Emmanuel Chabrier and Richard Rodney Bennett.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Alice Wong will deliver the 2021 Northern State University Larry and Julie Poeppel Family Common Read Lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students may now apply for fall 2021 Northern Edge Award undergraduate research funding.

    The Northern Edge Award, started in spring 2020, is designed to augment existing funding sources for undergraduate scholarship at NSU. It is especially intended to aid student projects in under-represented disciplines and/or projects that may not be eligible/competitive for other funding opportunities on campus.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – From Oct. 14 to Nov. 30, 2021, the work of artist Dwayne Wilcox will be on display in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.

    Wilcox currently resides in Rapid City, S.D., and is a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe. He is best known and celebrated for his Ledger Art, a term for predominately Plains Indian narrative drawing or painting on paper or cloth.

    Wilcox uses humor and recognizable aspects of contemporary culture to convey a message or narrative. Each is reflective, personal, and tells a story.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Theatre Program will present the musical "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University School of Business student Alexander Peterson received a scholarship from Delta Mu Delta, a business honorary society.

    Peterson is one of 58 students nationwide who have been awarded a scholarship from Delta Mu Delta. Peterson was awarded a $500 national scholarship. He’s the first student from Northern to receive the Delta Mu Delta scholarship at the national level.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University once again saw an increase in graduate student numbers this fall. It also saw a dramatic rise in pre-professional program enrollment, an increase in students living on campus, and its number of new freshmen held steady, according to figures released today from the South Dakota Board of Regents.

    Northern’s biggest gain was in graduate student credit hours, which rose by 7 percent from 2020 and is 26 percent over 2019 figures. Northern has 204 degree-seeking graduate students, the highest number since 2014.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The deadline to register for the 2021 Northern State University Gypsy Day Parade is 5 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 24.

    Parade entrants may register online at this link for the parade, set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, on Aberdeen’s Main Street.

    This year’s theme is “Wolves of the Galaxy.” Entrants will decorate their float based on the theme, and a panel of judges comprised of Northern and community leaders will present awards in various categories.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – International student Eduardo Mendoza Reyes-Ortiz received a $10,000 scholarship from the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, making it the third time he’s received this scholarship.

    Mendoza Reyes-Ortiz, from Cochabamba, Bolivia, received the scholarship from the foundation. The foundation’s mission helps Latinx music students achieve their professional goals through economical and institutional support.
