  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Reading Clinic has openings in its upcoming tutoring schedule starting Jan. 13.

    The Reading Clinic, located in Williams Library on the NSU campus, is an after-school tutoring program providing literacy assessment and instruction for students in grades 1-12.

    Education majors from the NSU Millicent Atkins School of Education provide these tutoring services, working one-on-one with students.

  • SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –The South Dakota Board of Regents this week approved new academic programs for Northern State University to meet emerging workforce and economic development trends statewide. 

    A graduate certificate in behavioral and justice studies at Northern will offer enhanced preparation for professionals working in counseling, police or law enforcement, social work, psychology, and related fields.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Deputy Director of Athletics Zach Flakus announced his resignation Wednesday, after spending nearly 20 years with Northern.

    Flakus has been named general manager of Jackrabbit Sport Properties (South Dakota State University) for Learfield/IMG College. He will start the position in January.

    “My roles at NSU prepared me for this opportunity and I couldn’t be more grateful,” said Flakus. “Josh Moon and Dr. Downs’ leadership and vision have grown Wolves Athletics in ways many thought impossible.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A significant gift of $30,000 from Molded Fiber Glass Cos. will be used to create an outdoor art pavilion on the Northern State University campus.

    The Molded Fiber Glass South Dakota Pavilion will be located east of Spafford and Dacotah halls. MFG CEO Richard Morrison and Aberdeen MFG Senior Vice President David Giovannini were on campus Monday to finalize the donation.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Saturday, Dec. 14, 83 students will graduate from Northern State University at its 2019 winter commencement.

    The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center.

    Delivering the commencement address will be NSU Associate Professor of English Dr. Lysbeth Benkert-Ramsussen. Student speaker will be NSU Student Association President Harrison Bruns. Longtime Aberdeen businessman and Northern supporter Patrick Teal will receive an honorary degree during the ceremony.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A local businessman and longtime supporter of Northern State University will be honored at this Saturday’s winter commencement ceremony.

    Patrick Teal will receive an honorary degree at the ceremony, set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

    Teal attended Northern State College from 1973 to 1975. He worked while attending Northern, and soon chose to leave school to pursue his career. He started working part time for Tradehome Shoes in 1976.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – “Visual Lit,” the senior art exhibition for Northern State University student Katie Olson, will be on display in Williams Library from Monday, Dec. 2-Saturday, Dec. 14.
