  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has named Mr. Layton Cooper as the new Director of Admissions.

    Cooper has served as interim admissions director for several months, and now the position has been made permanent, said NSU President Dr. Tim Downs.

    “Layton has excelled in his position of overseeing the day-to-day operations of our NSU Admissions team,” Downs said. “His role is crucial for our university, allowing our vice president of enrollment to focus on our holistic enrollment strategy, and we’re thrilled Layton will continue in this capacity.”… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.  The NSU Counseling Center received a grant to aid in opioid misuse prevention from the Department of Social Service’s Division of Behavioral Health.

    The $20,000 grant will help the NSU Counseling Center provide Generation Rx University Opioid Prevention and Education training to the students of Northern, as well as support social media and community campaigning to spread awareness.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony will present “The Wizard of Oz” on April 25 at 7:30PM and April 26 at 3PM in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    The performance will feature the original music of Harold Arlen and Herbert Stothart. The classic compositions will be performed live by the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony, directed by Christopher Stanichar, with the re-mastered film projected on the big screen alongside the AUCS performance.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Stanichar, will continue the celebration of its 100th season with its next concert, “Unfinished Business.”

    The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center’s Jewett Theater. A pre-concert conversation is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. in the JFAC Berggren Recital Hall.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The NSU School of Fine Arts presents Darci Bultema, soprano and Audrey Miller, clarinet in recital on Feb 20 at 7:30pm in the Krikac Auditorium on the NSU campus. 

    The program features a premiere of the work “She Loves” by NSU music professor and Aberdeen University Civic Symphony conductor Christopher Stanichar. “She Loves” is a group of five songs based on poetry by poets Sara Teasdale, Emily Dickinson, Christina Rossetti, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Elementary students in the Aberdeen area will join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the 20th annual National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 3.

    Read Across America is a Dr. Seuss themed literacy night at the Aberdeen Mall. The event welcomes all children in the Aberdeen area from grades pre-school through 5th grade to come and have fun!

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – The sixth annual Lamont-Rhodes Lecture will be held in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, March 31.

    The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social, and the lecture starts at 6:30 p.m. This year’s speaker is Damian Mason, a businessman, agriculturist, speaker, podcaster, writer and consultant.
