  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen couple who made Northern State University’s new wolf sculpture possible were honored at the Harvey C. Jewett IV Regional Science Education Center ribbon-cutting ceremony.

    Ka and Sally Squire also got to meet South Dakota sculptor John Lopez, who created the sculpture that now stands in front of the main entrance of the science center.

    Lopez, who was also recognized at Thursday’s ceremony, is a Northern alum.

    “It’s a surreal feeling to be back here 28 years after I graduated,” he said.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s renowned music instructors and guests will show off their talents at the annual NSU School of Fine Arts Faculty Showcase Recital on Thursday, Sept. 19.

    The showcase, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, will feature an array of solo and chamber performances by NSU music faculty.

    The event is free of charge, though donations will be accepted for the music scholarship fund.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s fall 2019 Noon Forums will kick off at noon Wednesday, Sept. 18, with “Lincoln and the Limits of Presidential Power.”

    The session, which will take place in the NSU Williams Library Round Room, will be led by NSU Professor of Political Science Dr. Jon Schaff.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will celebrate Constitution Day on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

    Constitution Day is the federal observance of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Across the Northern campus, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear patriotic clothing or decorate their workspaces with a patriotic theme.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is presenting Wolf Talks in conjunction with the 2019 NSU Larry and Julie Poeppel Family Common Read Lecture.

    The next Wolf Talk, “Overcoming Barriers to Productivity” with Petr Ludwig, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the NSU Honors Program and held in partnership with trio Student Support Services.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A new endowment through the Northern State University Foundation honors a Northern alumna who worked for almost 40 years in education in South Dakota.

    The $105,000 Norma Brugman Endowment was started by Bruce Brugman of Rapid City to honor the legacy of his wife, Norma. Both are 1969 Northern graduates.

    Norma Brugman taught seventh grade for 38 years in Doland, Clark, Blunt and Dakota Middle School in Rapid City. As an educator, Brugman was known for her innovation as well as her caring nature with students. She was also known as a… more
