  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Huron Community Campus will host an orientation for new and returning Northern State University students attending HCC.

    The event will take place at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Campus Center, 333 Ninth St. S.W., Huron. Along with an orientation session, Northern staff will be present to address student needs in the areas of admissions, academic advising, IT and registration.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has been selected as a host site for the Japan Outreach Initiative – the first university in the Dakotas to be chosen for this program.

    “We’re putting South Dakota on the map through Northern,” said Dr. Leigh Neys, director of the NSU Office of International Programs.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.–The NSU School of Fine Arts will be welcoming five new faculty members into the program starting fall 2019.

    The new faculty are as follows:

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – This summer, Northern State University officials fine-tuned their emergency preparedness policies thanks to an exercise led by the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management and Brown County Emergency Management.

    The tabletop exercise, which also involved the South Dakota Department of Health, consisted of talking through a potential emergency scenario – in this case, a pandemic event.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University kicked off the 2019-20 academic year with in-service sessions that welcomed new faculty and discussed strategies for student success.

    NSU President Dr. Tim Downs led the first session in a packed Krikac Auditorium.

  • PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Regents this week approved academic program requests from public universities, including Northern State University, to meet workforce and community development needs across the state.  

    For Northern, requests were approved for new undergraduate certificates in behavioral forensic sciences and quantitative analytics in science and a graduate certificate in Germans from Russia studies.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Professor of Education Dr. Alan Neville has co-authored an educational assessment textbook that he will use in an NSU education course.

    “Educational Assessment: Using Student Learning Objectives to Promote Student Growth” was published by Kendall Hunt Publishing Company. The textbook was co-authored by Dr. Janeen Outka, an adjunct instructor for Northern.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Brown County Fair-goers will once again have a chance to win money to attend Northern State University.

    Northern is giving away $7,000 in scholarships for fall 2020. That’s seven $1,000 scholarships, or one for each day of the fair, which runs Aug. 12-18 at the Brown County Fairgrounds.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has partnered with Love Your Melon (LYM) to produce custom NSU hats. LYM is an apparel company based out Minneapolis, MN dedicated to giving 50% of net profits to fight pediatric cancer.

    LYM was founded in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas by two friends, Zachary and Brian, who wanted to start a business with a meaningful and positive social impact. The company strives to create therapeutic experiences and fund charitable programming initiatives for children and families battling cancer.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Growing up in Mobridge, Steven Zimoski was really ambitious – he knew he wanted to travel the world someday, he just didn’t know how it was going to happen.

    For Zimoski, a 2014 Northern State University graduate, it happened thanks to his career as a music manager and saxophone player for Carnival Cruise Line.
