  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – All three winners in this year’s Brown County Historical Society annual Historical Research and Writing Awards are students from the Northern State University College of Arts and Sciences.

    First place went to Ethan Delvo, a history education major from Watertown, for “A Recipe for Disaster: How Politics and the Greater Good Killed the Oahe Irrigation Project.”

    Hannah Higdon, a history, communications and political science major from Dupree, received second place for “The Indian Reorganization Act: John Collier = Unsuccessful.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Saturday, May 4, 236 students will graduate from Northern State University at its 2019 spring commencement.

    The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the NSU Barnett Center.

    Delivering the commencement address will be 2019 Distinguished Alumna Dr. Becky Guffin, superintendent of the Aberdeen Public School District.

    Saturday’s student speaker will be 2018-19 NSU Student Association President Shanae Doerr.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – KawLar Dah’s love for Northern State University started well before she became a student.

    “I already loved Northern before I even enrolled here,” said Dah, who will graduate Saturday with a business administration degree.

    Dah toured Northern when she was in high school and said people around campus were so nice.

    “They welcomed the high school students,” she said. “I feel like I was already welcome before I even got here. That’s why I chose Northern. The community is super nice, too.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –Northern State University’s Dan Yurgaitis will present “The Last Lecture I’d Ever Give” during the final spring 2019 Noon Forum on Wednesday, May 1.

    The session, which will take place in the NSU Williams Library Round Room, will be led by retiring NSU Director of Theater Dan Yurgaitis.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On April 27, Northern State University student-athletes will team up with the United Way of Northeastern South Dakota to give back to a community that has given so much to them.

    That Saturday is the 17thannual Day of Champions, and the Wolves will spend the day volunteering at various community organizations, performing tasks from cleaning to painting to yard cleanup.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) will take you on a tour of Italy in their spring concert entitled “It’s-A-Me!” directed by Christopher Stanichar.

    The concert will take you on a voyage through Italian culture and places, beginning with Gioachino Rossini’s overture to “La Gazza Ladra,” which translates to “The Thieving Magpie.” Most don’t recognize the name of this work, but have heard it in commercials and movies, including “A Clockwork Orange.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Jazz Ensembles will host a Spring Swing Dance at the Aberdeen Yelduz Shrine Temple on Friday, April 26.

    Doors for the event will open at 6 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m. The Spring Swing Dance will feature the talent of NSU Jazz Combo 1 and 2, the NSU 2 O’Clock Big Band and the student-led band “Quip.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –Northern State University’s Theater Department has namedDr. Kane Anderson assistant professor of theatre

    Anderson earned his Ph.D. in Theater Studies from UC Santa Barbara, MFA in Theatre Performance from Arizona State University, and BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.—The NSU greenhouse will be holding a plant sale Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in MJ 144.

    Stop by the greenhouse to see the new succulents, double daffodils, geraniums, aloe vera plants, and more. Proceeds benefit science scholarships and a science fair award.
