  • Results have been announced for the Northern South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair, held March 28 at Northern State University.

    Individual Grand Winners were Abe Wieland of Central High School and Taren Tschetter of Doland School.

    Team Grand Winner was Northwestern Area - Haiden Grandpre and Teryn Sparling.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Amy Dolan was recently awarded a grant from South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks.  

    The grant is titled “Population structure, efficacy of trapping techniques and hematological measures of stress” and the study will be carried out this summer near Clear Lake, S.D. Dolan was awarded the grant along with University of Minnesota Morris Dr. Heather Waye.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Brooke Thielbar will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Thielbar, the daughter of Patti DeBates and Brock Thielbar, grew up in Hardwick, Minn., graduating from Luverne High School in Luverne, Minn. in 2014.

  • Aberdeen, South Dakota (March 29, 2019)—Sean Hodges, a seventh grader from Edison Middle School in Sioux Falls, took top honors at the 2019 South Dakota National Geographic Bee held today at Northern State University in Aberdeen. The state champion received $1,000, the National Geographic Almanac, and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent South Dakota in the National Geographic Bee Championship to be held at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 19-22, 2019.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Artist Noelle Rasmussen’s “Pursuing Palestine” exhibition will be on display in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery April 4 to June 7.

    Rasmussen lives within reach of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. She earned her B.S. in journalism from the University of Colorado and her M.A. in liberal studies (focusing in photography) at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A world-renowned saxophonist will provide a multimedia musical performance on Monday at Northern State University.

    Dr. John Sampen will present “In Two Worlds: Exploring the Duality of Music and Society” at 7:30 p.m. April 1 in NSU’s Krikac Auditorium. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will also feature composer/engineer Mark Bunce.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.– Northern State University senior Chukwualuka “Sammy” Oguejiofor will hold his senior art exhibition reception at 5:30 p.m on April 11 in the Student Center.

    Sammy, son of Mrs. Ndidi Eucharia Oguejiofor, is a graphic design major originally from Nigeria, and graduated from Augusta International School. His senior art exhibition will be open from April 8 to April 19, and will showcase his many beauty and fashion related photography works.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will come together to present their spring choral concert, titled “Farewells and Thanks,” at 3 p.m. March 31 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    The Chamber Singers will open the concert with Thomas Marley’s “Fire, Fire” and Tomas Luis de Victoria’s “O vos omnes,” which will be followed by all seven movements of Gabriel Fauré’s “The Fauré Requiem,” with soloists Salvatore Scavo, Taylor Brekke and John Cassens.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students Tanner Shultis and John Cassens will hold their senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Northern’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Shultis, the son of Randy and Tessa Schabot of Aberdeen, graduated from Central High School in 2015.

    Cassens, the son of Craig and Laura Cassens, graduated from Faulkton Area High School in 2015.
