  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Education’s Dr. Anna Schwan has been awarded an American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Japan Studies Institute Fellowship.

    Schwan, assistant professor of education, will attend a two-week intensive institute in San Diego, Calif., this summer, which will be focused on the study of modern Japan. Schwan was chosen as one of thirteen individuals across the United States to be awarded the fellowship Nearly all of her costs to attend the event are covered by the fellowship. … more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A launch party to celebrate the release of the 2019 publication of Northern State University’s literary magazine “Northern Lights” will be held in the NSU Lincoln Gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24.

    The event will feature free food, a reading, as well as an awards ceremony for the best poem, short story and art piece. The new edition of “Northern Lights” will be available to purchase at the event.

  • Four NSU Distinguished Alumni to be honored at banquet

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University alumna and Aberdeen Public School District Superintendent Dr. Becky Guffin will deliver Northern’s 2019 spring commencement address.

    The commencement ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the NSU Barnett Center.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Sixteen Northern State University School of Business students competed at the 2019 Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Competition March 22-23 in Bismarck, N.D., all of whom qualified for the 2019 National PBL Conference in June.

    NSU students received first-place honors in 14 different events, second-place honors in 10 events and third-place honors in seven events at the North Dakota competition.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A Northern State University student is launching a campaign to raise awareness – and funding – toward accessibility on campus.

    Tyler Goldade, a junior art student from Aberdeen, has created “Mobility Matters.” The campaign will kick off today, April 15 – “Mobility Monday.” Goldade and his classmates from Sara Christensen Blair’s graphic design class plan to hang post-it notes on campus wherever they see a potential barrier for someone in a wheelchair. They will post pictures on Instagram (@mobility.disability) using the hashtag #MobilityMatters.… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Due to severe weather, the Northern State University campus will close at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 10), and reopen at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12.

    There will be no classes and no campus activities, and all offices will be closed during this time.

    NSU Theater’s performances of “Fun Home” will be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday. Patrons who have purchased tickets for those nights will have their tickets honored at their choice of the Friday or Saturday performance. Refunds will also be available if necessary.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Years ago for a middle school geography project, Kristen VanDeRostyne had to pick a global destination to plan a faux vacation – mapping out the entire trip, from choosing a hotel to pretending to purchase a ticket.

    VanDeRostyne chose Australia, and “it’s just stuck with me ever since.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –An article by Northern State University’s Dr. Kristi Bockorny, "Entrepreneurs’ Courage, Psychological Capital, and Life Satisfaction," has been published in the Organizational Psychology section of Frontiers in Psychology.

    The paper was co-authored by Dr. Carolyn Youssef-Morgan and came from a portion of Bockorny’s dissertation, and initially started with her studies on certain characteristics that would lead to entrepreneurial success.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The South Dakota Germans from Russia Cultural Heritage Center in the Northern State University Beulah Williams Library has received the Act of Excellence recognition from the South Dakota Hall of Fame.

    In honor of this special recognition, Northern hosted an Act of Excellence celebration at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Isaac Lincoln Gallery in Lincoln Hall.
