  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Theater Department will present “Silent Sky” in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Black Box Theater.

    Performances will run at 7:30 p.m. nightly Feb. 19-23.

    Silent Sky tells the true story of the 19th century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt and explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – With the governor’s signature in place, Northern State University’s on-campus regional sports complex is moving forward.

    Gov. Kristi Noem has signed House Bill 1037, which authorizes the South Dakota Board of Regents to contract for the construction of the sports complex on the NSU campus.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University School of Fine Arts’ Drs. Darci Bultema and Audrey Miller will offer a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    Bultema, associate professor of music in voice/opera, is a soprano, while Miller, assistant professor of clarinet/music, plays the clarinet. The duo will come together to offer selections by Louis Spohr, David Bennett and Richard Pearson Thomas.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Fine Arts will host a webinar with world-renowned performer Dr. Helen Marlais.

    The webinar will take place 10 a.m.-noon Feb. 9 in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center’s Berggren Recital Hall.

    Marlais’ webinar will explore ways to look at students’ repertoire in three dimensions. She will discuss phrasing and sound, correct physical gestures, as well as many ways to stimulate attendees’ imaginations so they feel and think about the music.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students will make their comedy debut at an event this month in downtown Aberdeen.

    Northern students will perform at a Stand-up Comedy Open Mic, set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Red Rooster Coffee House, 218 S. Main St. Local stand-up comedian Jon Boon will serve as emcee.

    The students participating are members of Northern’s Comedy and Humor Seminar, led by Dr. Liz Sills, assistant professor of communication studies. About 10-15 students are expected to perform.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –The NSU Beulah Williams Library will be unveiling the William H. Daly Exhibit, an NSU Undergraduate Research Grant project created by Northern student Darcy Usher.

    The opening reception for “William H. Daly: The Country Boy, The Soldier, The National Promoter”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s spring 2019 “A Writer Reads” series will feature readings by two visiting writers, two NSU English faculty members, as well as readings by students from NSU’s creative writing and poetry course in the Williams Library Round Room.

    Events will take place on the following dates:

    Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 4:30 p.m.: Author Barbara Duffey of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell will offer readings of her written poetry. Her most recent published book is titled “Simple Machines.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – In February, the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) Orchestra will be holding their concert, titled “Romantic Bouquet.”

    The concert will take place in the Jewett Theater in the Johnson Fine Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be orchestrated by NSU visiting professor of music and director, Christopher Stanichar, and will feature four themed pieces, one written by Stanichar titled “Sunflowers.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s proposed on-campus regional sports complex is one step closer to reality thanks to approval from the South Dakota Senate.

    On Thursday, the Senate approved House Bill 1037, which authorizes the South Dakota Board of Regents to contract for the construction of the sports complex on the NSU campus. The bill now moves to the governor for approval.
