  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A husband and wife musical duo will perform an upcoming concert at Northern State University.

    Dr. Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry will present a recital of music for piano four-hands at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in NSU’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Featured on the program will be music by Emmanuel Chabrier, Florent Schmitt, Edward Elgar and Franz Schubert.

    “We are very excited to present a program that combines some rarely performed gems with one of the true monuments of piano duet literature,” said Boulton, NSU dean of fine arts.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University President Dr. Tim Downs has been named the recipient of TRIO’s 2018 Friend of ASPIRE Award.

    Downs, who was nominated by NSU’s TRIO Student Support Services, received the award at a banquet on Monday at a conference in Missoula, Mont.

    One individual is recognized each year by ASPIRE, the regional professional association of TRIO programs that includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s longtime Purchasing Director Earl Weisenburger has received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Educational Procurement’s Great Plains Region.

    The award is presented to someone who has put forth efforts in the region throughout their career to support others in educational procurement.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Lindsey Friedrichsen will hold a senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Friedrichsen, the daughter of Stewart and Shirley Friedrichsen, grew up in Huron, graduating from Huron High School in 2015.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –The Northern State University Music Department has invited Martina Švandrlíková, a music education doctoral student from Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic, to campus.

    Švandrlíková will be staying in Aberdeen from Oct. 3 to Nov. 14 to study current trends, methods and structure of music education in the United States.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A satellite studio for South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) opened at Northern State University on Friday, September 14.

    The satellite studio will allow SDPB local producers to interview campus staff, community leaders, state legislators or anyone who has a story to tell.

    The studio also includes a digital recorder that will allow students, faculty and community members to come in and record podcasts or interviews, which can be easily edited and transferred to USB flash drives.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has a larger freshman class this fall, and the university continues its trend of high student retention rates.

    Northern has 339 freshman this year, according to figures released today from the South Dakota Board of Regents. That’s a nearly 5 percent increase from 324 in fall 2017.

    Northern also boasts a freshmen to sophomore retention rate of 75 percent – the first time in at least 20 years the university has had three years in a row of retention rates over 70 percent.
