  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will purchase two new microscopes thanks to a Research and Development Innovation Grant from the South Dakota Board of Regents.

    Dr. Alyssa Kiesow is Northern’s principal investigator for the grant, totaling $77,078. Kiesow said the funds will be used to purchase two fluorescence microscopes to help faculty better engage and train students in research.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will celebrate Constitution Day on Monday, Sept. 17.

    Constitution Day is the federal observance of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Across the Northern campus, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear patriotic clothing or decorate their workspaces with a patriotic theme.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Christopher Downey can hear the shape of the space in a room.

    Downey can find a building’s front doors by the way the feedback of his cane changes – the sound from the tip of the cane hitting the floor’s surface and bouncing back to him.

    “You can localize different sounds to realize where it’s coming from,” said Downey, who lost his sight in 2008. “The sound of a recessed entry is very distinctive.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s renowned music instructors will show off their talents at the annual NSU School of Fine Arts Faculty Showcase Recital on Thursday, Sept. 13.
