  • RESTON, Va. – Northern State University’s Tava Berg will be honored by SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators as a Major of the Year during the organization’s 135th National Convention and Expo, which will be held virtually April 13-17.

    The award celebrates outstanding undergraduate students in the health, physical education, recreation and dance professions who are nominated by a faculty advisor or professor. Berg will be recognized on Tuesday, April 13, during the Opening General Session.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The results are in, and the outpouring of love and support that Wolves Nation showed to Northern State University on its first-ever GiveNDay is overwhelming. 

    As of April 1, GiveNDay reporting showed that 1,253 donors generously gave a total of more than $193,000 during this 24-hour campaign designed to unite the entire Northern community.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Every spring, the Northern State University Barnett Center – and the entire Aberdeen community – is packed with athletes and fans from around the region.

    March is tournament time for NSU and Aberdeen, and this year it was even busier than usual.

    This year, Northern and the Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau were able to successfully bid the NCAA Men’s Central Division Basketball Tournament. The event took place at Wachs Arena inside the NSU Barnett Center starting Saturday, March 13.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Six Northern State University Honors Program students attended the virtual Upper Midwest Honors Conference on Friday, March 26.

    Two of those students, Emily Reiten and Molly Walter, presented their thesis research at the conference, titled, “Connections: Zooming in on Honors Education.”

    Reiten, from Jamestown, N.D., presented, “Paranoia. Is Your Smartphone Eavesdropping on You?” This study utilized a mini experiment and survey to explore experiences related to our phones eavesdropping on our private conversations.  Her thesis advisor… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Brandi Krueger’s senior art exhibition will be on display April 4-17 in Northern State University’s Lincoln Gallery.

    The reception for her exhibition will be at 6 p.m. April 14 in the Lincoln Gallery.

    Krueger grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota. She graduated from Wishek High School, N.D., in 2017. Her parents are Christina and Steven Krueger from Cozad, Neb.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will hold an in-person spring commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 8, in the Barnett Center.

    Guests will be welcome, with each participating graduate receiving four tickets to use for family and friends. Masks will be required per S.D. Board of Regents policy, and attendees will be appropriately spaced throughout the Barnett Center.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Thursday, March 18, Northern State University again hosted the South Dakota Region 2 judging of National History Day 2021, held remotely this year as it was in 2020.

    A total of 183 students from schools in Sioux Valley, Waverly South Shore, Britton-Hecla, Florence, Brookings, Summit and Wilmot presented 116 projects.

    Projects were judged by a team of 20 Northern students, faculty and staff, plus Presentation College Professor Dr. Brad Tennant.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Abby Woytassek Nelson always intended to pursue teaching, and Northern State University’s Educational Studies Secondary Education program provided the perfect opportunity.

    The new program is specifically designed for students like Nelson – candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree and wish to pursue certification to teach in South Dakota while also earning a master’s degree.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Fine Arts will present the "The Pirates of Penzance" in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. This staged concert production combines the talents of the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony, NSU Opera and NSU Theatre.

    Performances will run at 7:30 p.m. nightly on April 9 and 10.
