  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Starting this fall, Northern State University will have a women’s choir for the very first time.

    Northern students and the greater Aberdeen community are invited to participate in the NSU/Aberdeen Women's Choir, which will be directed by NSU Associate Professor of Music Education Dr. Wendy van Gent.

    This fall, the NSU/Aberdeen Women's Choir will meet on Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Choir Room. This ensemble will feature multiple genres with choral literature about and by women. All treble voices are… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Music Department will present a Choral Spring Concert featuring the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers at 3 p.m. April 25 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

    The featured work for the Chamber Singers will be Johannes Brahms’ “Liebeslieder Walzer,” with Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry playing piano, four-hands.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Phi Beta Lambda students did very well in the recent virtual State Leadership Conference competition. 

    Each of the nine NSU PBL members placed in at least one competitive event. As a team, NSU PBL came away with 10 first-place awards, seven second-place awards and one third-place award.

    All of the students now qualify to compete at the upcoming virtual National Leadership Conference.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On April 17, Northern State University student-athletes will team up with the United Way of Northeastern South Dakota in service to the Aberdeen area community.

    Saturday is the 19th annual Day of Champions, and the Wolves will spend the day volunteering at various community organizations, performing tasks from cleaning to painting to yard cleanup.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The 2021 Northern State University Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum will take place April 21 in the Jewett Regional Science Education Center.

    This annual forum is a venue in which Northern undergraduates can present their research or scholarly activities. Oral presentations will be 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m., with the poster session 1-2 p.m.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – An article by Northern State University faculty members Drs. Kristi Bockorny and Hannah Walters has been accepted for publication in The Transnational Journal of Business.

    The article, titled “The Relevance of a Liberal Arts Education to Business School Graduates: An Assessment of Alumni,” will appear in the journal’s June edition. Bockorny and Walters collected survey data from a sample of business alumni in order to assess their perceived relevance of a liberal arts education to their business degree.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Music Department is proud to present the “Battle of the Brass” chamber recital this Thursday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center’s Jewett Theater.

    This event is rescheduled from last spring and will honor the 2020 NSU Distinguished Alumni: William Deng, James Hess, James Klein, John Lopez and Joe Senger.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Concert Band and Symphonic Band will present “Band Extravaganza” at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18.

    Four groups of students are working on service learning projects with the following local organizations: Boys and Girls Club of Aberdeen Area, Aberdeen Area Humane Society, Salvation Army and Aberdeen Family YMCA.
