ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students Madison March, Melissa Ulber and Katrina Weigel will hold their senior recital at 3 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.
March, who plays the trumpet, will perform “Sonate pour Trompette et Piano, I. Sarabande & 2. Intermede,” Jean Hubeau; “Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major, I. Allegro,” Johann Baptist Georg Neruda; and “Sonata for Trumpet & Piano, Movt. 1,” Kent Kennan. Her accompanist will be Kay Fischer.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – For Northern State University student Demi Waldner, studying abroad was a life-changing experience—and even led to her determining her career path after college.
Waldner spent a year in South Korea—her first time traveling abroad—and said it was an amazing experience.
“I’d say the best part was learning both the language and the culture,” said Waldner, a junior English major.
While there, she also learned that to work as an English teacher, she just needs a bachelor’s degree from an English-speaking university.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Professor of History Dr. Ric Dias has published his second book, “Kaiser Steel of Fontana; Together we Build.”
The book, released July 4 from The History Press, examines how industrialist Henry J. Kaiser used novel labor relations around World War II to break into and then succeed in the highly competitive steel industry.
This week, Dias will be attending the Author Fair at K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library, 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. He will give a brief talk and sign copies of his book, which will be available to purchase.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony invites you to a concert inspired by colors of the rainbow at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Northern State University.
The concert, which will be held in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater, feature soloists from the Aberdeen area, including Northern faculty members and a side-by-side selection with Aberdeen Central High School Orchestra. ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Fall Jazz Concert will take place Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.
The concert will feature the 2 O’Clock Jazz Band, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart, NSU professor of music.
Tickets will be available at the door, at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for NSU faculty and staff. Northern students are admitted free with student ID.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Three Northern State University students were selected for a panel at a recent national humor studies conference—and one of the students took home a top award.
NSU student Kenissa Ross, from Aberdeen, won the Eugenio E. Zaldivar Award for Top Undergraduate Paper at the annual meeting of the Lighthearted Philosophers' Society, which was held Oct. 7-8 in Greensboro, N.C.

ABERDEEN, SD – Northern State University will host An Evening With South Dakota Poets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Beulah Williams Library Rotunda.
The event will feature Northern’s Dr. Lysbeth Benkert, Professor of English and author of the poetry chapbook, “#girl stuff.” Also featured will be Joseph Bottum, poetry editor of the New York Sun; winner of the Christopher Award for children’s literature; and author of the new volume of poetry, “Spending the Winter: A Poetry Collection.”

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will host a reception for Jason Briggs, Northern’s first visiting artist of the academic year, on Monday, Oct. 17.
Briggs’ reception will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Monday in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery. At 7 p.m., he will give a brief artist talk about his display, “Touch,” which is a walkthrough exhibition of porcelain works.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s criminal justice major is now offered online as well as on campus.
Northern has also signed an articulation agreement allowing graduates of Southeast Technical College’s law enforcement program to complete the NSU bachelor’s degree in criminal justice online in just two years. This provides a seamless path to further education for students at STC.
