  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student William Ellwanger received national recognition at a virtual Phi Beta Lambda event this summer.

    Ellwanger earned eighth place in the “Contemporary Sports Issues” category at the PBL National Leadership Experience, which took place in June.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – When Northern State University students return to the campus this fall, they’ll be entering a brand new educational environment focused on safety as well as learning.

    Though many classes will resume in person, others will be offered online – and, in some cases, through a hybrid model called “HyFlex,” which allows students to participate in class the way that works best for them.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On-campus COVID-19 testing will be one of the tools available at Northern State University this fall to help slow the spread of the virus.

    The testing will be available on an as-needed basis, at no cost to NSU students, through Student Health Services (Student Center 240) in partnership with Avera Health. Testing will be done via Abbott ID-Now machines, thanks to a partnership with the South Dakota Department of Health.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A significant gift from Avera to Northern State University will strengthen the organizations’ ties – and honor a longtime NSU coach and athletic director.

    Thanks to Avera’s recent donation, the fitness space on the top floor of the NSU Barnett Center will now be named the Bob Olson Strength and Conditioning Center. Olson, who retired in 2012 after a 37-year career at Northern, previously served on Avera’s Board of Directors.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is offering a brand new scholarship to high school students taking dual credit courses through NSU.

    Starting in fall 2021, the NSU Dual Credit Scholarship will be available to any new freshman who has taken dual credit courses from Northern. In addition, this scholarship can be awarded on top of the WolfPACT, the largest guaranteed scholarship in the region.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Face coverings will be required in all public indoor spaces on the Northern State University campus starting this fall, as mandated by the South Dakota Board of Regents’ new tiered protocol.

    On Wednesday, the BOR approved adopting a tiered approach to face covering requirements for Northern and the other five public universities when fall semester begins Aug. 19.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Five Northern State University alumni and a pair of longtime NSU Wolves coaches are being inducted into the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.

    The Hall of Fame Banquet will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the Dakota Event Center in Aberdeen.

    The 2020 inductees are Jacob Hamik; Carlton Hupke; Adam Kampsen; Amanda (Madden) Mahlke; Kevin Ratzsch; and Brenda and Jim Fuller, former NSU track and field coaches.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –  The Northern State University Reading Clinic will offer free tutoring services for children this fall to assist families dealing with the financial impact of the pandemic.

    “Some families are struggling from drops in income caused by COVID-19 economic disruption,” said Reading Clinic Director Dr. Timothy Houge. “Therefore, I have decided to suspend the reading clinic tuition this coming fall.”
