  • Northern State University has named Sean Blackburn its new Dean of Students.

    Blackburn comes to Northern with 18 years of experience in the field of Student Affairs, most recently at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. There, he served as Vice President for Student Affairs, previously holding the position of Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – This summer, Northern State University is merging two of its academic areas to create one larger administrative unit that blends business and education.

    Northern’s new College of Professional Studies will bring together the Millicent Atkins School of Education and NSU School of Business, creating a shared mission of preparing students for professional careers.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is helping students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic any way it can including finding ways to provide financial assistance.

    One method of financial help was provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. Northern received $329,889 in CARES Act funding to be awarded to students, said NSU Director of Financial Aid Sharon Kienow. Nearly all of the funds have been disbursed to 274 students, Kienow said.

    The $49,397 NEH CARES Grant will fund Williams Library’s work generating transcripts and making them accessible in the library’s digital repository a project that was stalled due to the COVID-19 virus.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – ShyAnn Springer’s future career plans were solidified over a restaurant children’s menu as a teen, Springer used the kids’ menu at a local Denny’s to teach English words to the Japanese exchange student staying with her family.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., has released the dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester.

    Students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester are eligible for the dean’s list. There are four categories:

    • Full-time students with a GPA of 4.0.
    • Full-time students with a GPA of 3.5-3.99.
    • Part-time students with a GPA of 4.0.
    • Part-time students with a GPA of 3.5-3.99.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Starting next week, Northern State University will begin offering campus visits to prospective students and their families on a limited basis.

    Personalized, on-campus visits resume on Monday, June 15, with two visits offered each day. Visitors can get a first-hand look at life at Northern, including touring campus and meeting with faculty and staff.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – When South Dakota teacher Meghan Wounded Head wanted to pursue a master’s degree in leadership and administration, Northern State University was the obvious choice.
